The Sentence Rhythm Cache
Shaping sentences so emphasis lands where you mean it.
Core technique
Rhythm is how sentence length, structure and order guide a reader's attention. It is not a rule to alternate short and long sentences; it is a set of choices about emphasis. A short sentence after several longer ones can land a key point. A long sentence can hold a chain of related ideas together when they truly belong together. Repeating the same opening pattern — "The author says… The author shows… The author argues…" — can make different ideas sound equally important. Read your prose aloud: where you stumble or drone, ask what you want the reader to notice, and shape the sentence so that idea arrives in a prominent position, often at the end. Vary for meaning, not for variety's sake.
